Cleaning Up Green Space

In a celebration of their first 100 years, approximately 200 Briggs & Stratton employees and their families participated in a cleanup/improvement effort at McCarty Park in West Allis on Saturday, May 17, 2008.

Green Spaces“Briggs & Stratton is proud to partner with the Milwaukee County Parks System to clean up green space,” said Todd Teske, Briggs & Stratton CEO. “Our company has been a part of Milwaukee County for 100 years, and we wanted to give back to the community that has supported us all these years in a meaningful way. This was a natural fit for our employees given the nature of our engine and lawn care business.”

Some of the work involved included picking up litter, cleaning the outside of the pool area, grooming the parking lot area, washing walls, raking sand in the tot-lot area, planting flowers near the pool area, and beautifying the edge of the lagoon. Employees also did an amazing job painting picnic benches, storage sheds and scorer's booth near the baseball field.

In addition to employees donating their time cleaning the park, Briggs & Stratton also donated two new Ferris ZTR model IS® 5100 Z mowers, valued together at $40,000. New aluminum bleachers, dugouts and players benches for the baseball field inside McCarty Park were purchased with money donated by Briggs & Stratton.

At the kickoff of the event, Milwaukee County Parks Director Sue Black presented a proclamation to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Briggs & Stratton. The proclamation will be prominently displayed at the Corporate Office Building.

Briggs & Stratton employees continued the tradition this year by cleaning up Greenfield Park in West Allis on May 9, 2009 at Greenfield Park and on May 8,2010 at Brown Deer park.
