MILWAUKEE (January 30, 2013) — Featuring a new space-saving design, GE Generator Systems introduces its 8kW1- 10kW1 Home Generator System boasting the smallest footprint of their class.
“Our new 8kW1 – 10kW1 standby generators prove that small is smarter,” said Amanda Grandy, marketing manager for Briggs & Stratton, the exclusive licensee of GE Generator Systems. “Its compact design and convenient placement options make it the best choice for homeowners with small to medium sized properties or homeowners interested in just powering their essential circuits during a power outage.”
The 8kW1 - 10kW1 units may be the smallest generators of their class, but it is engineered to power a home’s basic and high-wattage electrical needs. The lights stay on, the refrigerator keeps food cold and the furnace helps ensure family members remain comfortable. Continuing its commitment to power more of a home’s appliances with a smaller, less expensive generator, the redesigned 10kW1 unit comes equipped with the Symphony™ II power management system. The Symphony™ II system manages a home’s power needs automatically during a power outage by electronically controlling electrical loads giving customers a true whole-house power solution.
The small generator can potentially be placed closer to the home in accordance with the National Fire Protection Agency testing standard, making the generator a perfect fit for homes with tight lot lines and small properties.2
Designed around protecting families and manufactured to last, the unit is the only standby generator of its size with an all-steel enclosure and all-steel base, so it can withstand temperatures more than double that of aluminum and far beyond that of plastic. It is also equipped with an automatic external gas shut- off valve, low pressure regulator and a thermally protected fuel system. “The new 8-kW1 – 10kW1 Home Generator System has effectively raised the bar on protecting your home and, ultimately, your family,” Grandy said.
The unit’s enclosure is made from the same rust-resistant, durable Galvanneal steel that is found in the automotive industry and features an automotive-grade paint process which results in protection against chipping and abrasions. It’s powered by a Briggs & Stratton engine that was recently redesigned to specifically meet the reliability, durability and cold weather starting demands of a standby generator.
Families will find peace of mind in knowing that their standby generator is working without ever having to go outside with a small basic wireless monitor for inside the home and a comprehensive parts and labor, four-year limited warranty3.
1This generator is rated in accordance with UL (Underwriters Laboratories) 2200 (stationary engine generator assemblies) and CSA (Canadian Standards Association) standard C22.2 No. 100-04 (motors and generators)
2Installations must strictly comply with all applicable codes, industry standards, laws, regulations and provided installation manual. Running engines give off carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless, poisonous gas so it is important to keep exhaust gas away from any windows, doors, ventilation intakes or crawl spaces. The installation manual contains specific instructions related to generator placement in addition to NFPA 37, including the requirement that carbon monoxide detectors be installed and maintained in your home.
