Briggs & Stratton LCA Results

The primary energy for the full life cycle of one 20" Mower with a 500 E Series Gasoline engine is equivalent to:
Powering the television in 181 houses for a day (6.75 hours on per day)
Or powering 1,529 laptops for one day

Total CO2 Equivalent is 280 kg (617 pounds) over entire life span of product (5.5 years) or 51 kg (112 pounds) of CO2 generated per year, including a credit from the recyclability of materials at end of life, of 55.5 kg-CO2 equivalence.

The annual CO2 emissions from a 20” mower with a 500e Series™ gasoline engine is equivalent to the energy saved by changing out one conventional light bulb with one compact fluorescent light bulb.

Check out the CFL Energy Savings Calculator and Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator; based on switching out one 100 watt incandescent bulb to one 25 watt CFL bulb used three hours per day with an energy savings of 82 kilowatt hours annually.

The charts below summarize the results of the Life Cycle Assessment conducted by PE INTERNATIONAL, Inc. on a 20" walk behind lawn mower with our new 500e Series™ gasoline engine. This site focuses on what we understand to be our primary impacts as an engine and mower manufacturer: energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Other impacts evaluated include eutrophication (water pollution), acidification (potential to create acid rain) and smog creation potential. All impacts were evaluated along all stages of the life cycle for the entire life of a mower (approximately 5.5 years). It is important to note that the Use and Manufacturing Phases result in the highest environmental impacts.
